Quote of the Day

Were it not for the shepherds, there would have been no reception. And were it not for a group of stargazers, there would have been no gifts.

The play of the week in Athens, Greece “It happened, believe it or not!”
Monday, January 29, 2007
MIKRO PALLAS, Athens, Greece
Director & Writer: Th.Atherides
Actors: Th.Atherides, V.Volioti, Sm.Karydi, G.Kormanos, El.Constantinidou, A.Loudaros, Ch.Plainis

The theater was full, proving that television can make big theater stars nowadays. All the actors have been adored by the greek tv audience the last years. The play, written by Thodoris Atherides, was fast, interesting, funny and bitter at the same time. Life and death, this world and heaven were beautifully mixed in a story of love, mainly, and childhood traumas.
I loved each one of the characters and the actors, too and I enjoyed particularly G.Kormanos act. Also, I have to confess that Ch.Plainis’ looks cannot be ignored. The ladies were brilliant and really funny, but S.Karydi did not seem to enjoy the audience applause at all. Th.Atherides was a little timid, maybe he couldn’t help it since his role was sort of “special”.
The theater has been renovated, but the seats (a kind of looong couches) were terribly uncomfortable. The ticket costs 26 euros.

The restaurant of the month: Cosa Nostra
Cosa Nostra
Psirri, Ag.Theklas 5
Athens, Greece

I love risotto with prawns. (Especially when it happens to be the best in the city)
I adore Frank Sinatra (his songs make me feel like I’m in love).
I appreciate good service.
A beautiful ambiance always affects me.

That’s why I will definitely go again to Cosa Nostra.
The dishes are mouthwatering, the staff warm and lively, one of them stopped out of the blue to light my cigarette, I got scared when a flame appeared suddenly in front of my face. Really cute, ha? The decoration is that of an italian restaurant in New York (I suppose so. I’ve never been to NY, but friends who’ve been there support the theory above), the food in the same concept, too. The music was fantastic, Frank Sinatra mostly and other jazz&soul oriented music.
Just go! You will love it! And it’s not expensive either.
Oh! Don’t forget to take a look at your plates; they are SO beautiful with that small pattern of the most famous buildings of NY!

The song of the week: NELLY FURTADO "Promiscuous"

The song of the week: NELLY FURTADO

"Promiscuous"
Nelly Furtado (feat. Timbaland)

[N:] Am I throwin you off? Nope
[N:] Didn’t think so

How you doin’ young lady
That feelin’ that you givin’ really drives me crazy
You don’t haveta play about the joke
I was at a loss of words first time that we spoke

Looking for a girl that’ll treat you right
You lookin’ for her in the day time with the light
You might be the type if I play my cards right
I'll find out by the end of the night

[N:] You expect me to just let you hit it
But will you still respect me if you get it

All I can do is try, gimme one chance
What’s the problem I don’t see no ring on your hand

I be the first to admit it, I’m curious about you, you seem so innocent

[N:] You wanna get in my world, get lost in it
Boy I’m tired of running, lets walk for a minute

[Chorus]
Promiscuous girl
Wherever you are
I’m all alone
And it's you that I want

[N:] Promiscuous boy
You already know
That I’m all yours
What you waiting for?

Promiscuous girl
You're teasing me
You know what I want
And I got what you need

[N:] Promiscuous boy
Let's get to the point
Cause we're on a roll
Are you ready?

[Verse]
[N:] Roses are red
Some diamonds are blue
Chivalry is dead
But you're still kinda cute

Hey! I can't keep my mind off you
Where you at, do you mind if I come through

[N:] I’m out of this world come with me to my planet
Get you on my level do you think that you can handle it?

They call me Thomas
last name Crown
Recognize game
I'm a lay mine's down

[N:] I'm a big girl I can handle myself
But if I get lonely I’ma need your help
Pay attention to me I don't talk for my health

I want you on my team
[N:] So does everybody else.

Baby we can keep it on the low
Let your guard down ain’t nobody gotta know
If you with it girl I know a place we can go

[N:] What kind of girl do you take me for?

[Chorus]
Don't be mad, don't get mean
[N:] Don't get mad, don't be mean

Hey! Don't be mad, don't get mean
[N:] Don't get mad, don't be mean

Wait! I don't mean no harm
I can see you with my t-shirt on

I can see you with nothing on
feeling on me before you bring that on

Bring that on
[N:] You know what I mean

Girl, I’m a freak you shouldn't say those things

I’m only trying to get inside your brain
To see if you can work me the way you say

It's okay, it's alright
I got something that you gon' like

Hey is that the truth or are you talking trash
Is your game M.V.P. like Steve Nash

[Chorus]
Promiscuous Girl
Wherever you are
I’m all alone
And its you that I want

[N:] Promiscuous Boy
I'm calling your name
But you're driving me crazy
The way you're making me wait

Promiscuous Girl
You're teasing me
You know what I want
And I got what you need

[N:] Promiscuous Boy
We're one in the same
So we don't gotta play games no more

Casino Royal: I want to be there…

Why did we love this movie so much?
Is it because:

  • Daniel Craig is irresistible?
  • James’s girlfriend’s dresses are divine?
  • James falls in love?
  • Montenegro looks so romantic?
  • Daniel Craig is a God
  • All of us girls have dreamt of sitting in the shower in an evening dress with the sexiest man in the world in a beautiful tuxedo licking our fingers?
  • we don’t feel so sorry any more that we haven’t been to Venice with someone we love, as, obviously, the buildings there are not so… safe?
  • we loved the car?
  • Daniel Craig is breathtaking in a swimming suit
  • Or is it because:
James is like some of us. Hurting, because life hasn’t been easy on him, cruel, because he has to be the best in a job he doesn’t like, violent, because he has to survive, terribly introvert, because he knows he is alone in the world. And, finally, he falls in love. It happens to everyone, at least once in a lifetime. And he gets betrayed. It happens always, when you find the love of your life. He hated her for a while, because she betrayed him and she punished him by dying and making him guilty forever. The story showed that good things never last. Everyone knows that. But I think even James would like to have at least one happy memory.

And here’s a not so relevant advice:
I suppose you remember that he tried to save her. He really did.
When you decide to let a man come into your life, ask yourself: “would HE do that?” There aren’t many real men in this world (I suppose men can tell the same about women), but it’s worth waiting for, please don’t compromise, don’t get involved with mice.

Christmas is over. What a relief!
Thursday, January 25, 2007

Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas. I wish I could have a Christmas tree decorated in my living room, the whole year long. But now, after the “war” of over-consuming, over-eating, drinking too much, lack of sleep and general indulgence, is over, something feels wrong. We are exhausted by too much glamour and synthetic happiness.

Even if your holidays were really meaningful (congratulations, this is rare), some tips to find yourself again and get back to ordinary life in a good mood are always appreciated:

  1. Read all the cards you have received during holidays and answer back to ALL your friends with a very short sweet e-mail (for God’s sake, don’t just write one and send it to the whole list, write a different one for each friend of yours!)

  2. Have fun by doing relaxing things. Read a new book, buy a new cd with lounge music, go to the theater or to the ballet. It’s better to refrain from bars and clubs for a while.

  3. Stop watching Greek TV. (And not only after Christmas.) Not only the Christmas is over, but also you will have to bear all this misery and bad taste. Please protect your self. Switch it off forever!

  4. You had too much champagne, try to remember what fruit juice, or tea, or water tastes like! If your skin looks a little dehydrated, now you know why.

  5. No more fats and sugar for a few days. Please eat healthier and go for a walk, because in 6 months you will need to buy a new bikini!

  6. Read your horoscope for the New Year, especially if you’re a Sag, or an Aries. It will lift your spirit up. Trust me!

  7. Make your plans for 2007 or even 2008. It’s so exciting!

  8. Dream about your next summer holidays and start planning them with your friends.
