Quote of the Day
Were it not for the shepherds, there would have been no reception. And were it not for a group of stargazers, there would have been no gifts.

My cigarette, my friend |
Tuesday, July 10, 2007 |
Don’t get me wrong. I know you're not good for my health, but you’ve helped me through a number of hard and good times and with that, nobody could disagree, not even those who screamed with joy when a smoking ban in all public places was decided recently by many European countries.
There were times when I didn’t have the faintest idea what to do with my hands, as I was utterly embarrassed.
Times when I was so bored I would have fallen asleep if I didn’t have a smoke.
Times when I just wanted to sit by my self in the dark, a while before dawn, with a glass of wine, contemplating the perfect night that I had just lived.
Days when I met a friend in the street, who I hadn’t seen for a long time and sat with them in a small French bistro to have a hot coffee and chat happily.
Nights when I was so sad that I kept forgetting to breathe and you reminded me to draw some air in together with your smoke.
Moments when I could nowhere find some honesty except for your pack: “Smoking can kill”.
Occasions where all the literature on bad smell related to you proved to be sooo wrong, e.g. kissing him after he’d had a cigarette and enjoying that spicy, bitter taste of fresh smoke in his mouth.
I have to say I can live without you in restaurants, bars and cafes. I really can. Besides, we can have our private moments at home, or at some good friends’ living rooms. But I don’t think I'm going to quit. After all, I’m not a racist, a homophobic, a pedophile, I don’t take advantage of other people, I don’t abuse animals, I don’t pollute the environment, I don’t cheat on my boyfriend, I’ve never supported a conservative party… I just smoke. |

That was so beautifully written. I truly truly loved that, it was so wonderful it felt perfect, but what is perfection?
-
No good for your health but I respect.
My blog is just photos, "visit me"
1 kiss

I quit smoking years ago, but I can relate to your love affair with it. Sometimes when I'm bored or embarrassed or whatever, I wish I could still light up. And there's still those people that just "look so cool" with a smoke hangin from their lip. I remember that smell on him, too. ahhhhh... divine.
-
I was touched by your post "And we wonder why they hate us" on your blog. Thanks for visiting mine!
-
@captain ...well you can no way define perfection, but since you can feel it, then you're on the right track my friend!
-
@jnuno Wow! Really interesting photos! It was worth the visit!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful indeed. You are a gifted writer -- able to capture that which is delightful, lovely and irresistable about the much-maligned cigarette and it's almost-extinct social culture.

What do you think about the smoking ban in some European countries?I got smoking banned from our Kingdom in 1999 and all the 27smokers that worked with/for us,could not argue?Well I think I simply used my position and applied what was known "absolute despotism".Smoking has never been good for our health though it may have elements needed by the body

Ladybird wrote a genuinely moving article about the relationship that every smoker has with his or her cigarettes.
Most of the comments were appreciative. One person, well-intentioned, thought he/she would share the health risks of smoking with her.
I am sure that Ladybird is aware of said risks. An article such as hers is not written unless the author struggles with the conflict of being a smoker.
Let her alone, I say. Some people enjoy coffee, some people enjoy tofu, some people like to paint and some people smoke.

Nice love story. Thank you

...That was very well written. I wish I could write like that.
Me...I'm against smoking.
I think that anyone who gives in to smoking that easily is just weak and fucked up. I think you are weak.
I think it's a shame to have such great writing talent wasted because of her disregard for her own body and lack of self control.
But that's just my opinion. What do I know?
-
well written.finally i found someone who is actually writing well.... do check my blogs too.i wd be obliged with ur commments

I never really understand smokers, primarily because I don't smoke for that matter, why would somebody buy a pack of cigs, smoke and when with enough time, can cause cancer and will have you dead, guess in order for me to fully compensate smokers is to become one, but rather not...
-
You seem like good fum. Interesting read your blog is I can tell you, and there are some god awful ones on here. Not mine though! If you like your singing then have a read of my blog on http://captainjackstracks.blogspot.com/ Great if you read it better if you comment. Ta Ra Captain Jack

Damn...this was inspiring and so truthful to a smokers attitude.
You will be quoted in life. x
-
Perhaps this is your irrational solution to this irrational time. I enjoyed your writing.
However, I beg of you to reconsider so that you may in fact continue to write and enjoy the life that your cigarette will take away or substitute with suffering.
Thanks!
-
I don't smoke, but I've seen the hold it had over my father who smoked through all of my childhood.
On a lighter note, I had to laugh when I saw a coworker standing in the rain, umbrella overhead, and puffing away.
-
Love your site. We hit on the same subject. I need advice because noone seems to check me out, and I put a lot of time into it. Critique me - I can take it. http://www.laydeed-entertainment.blogspot.com Thank you. If you feel more comfortable emailing www.daneesy1@yahoo.com

I very much enjoyed your description. As an ex-smoker, I can still relate to the joys of the cigarette. Perchance the cigarette companies will some day find a way to make this luxury less lethal.
Terrible thing is, I didn't really quit for my own health...I quit because I was worried about how my parents would react. Crazy, huh? And I was 28 at the time.
My blog is fun, you might like it.

As anyone in the business world will soon find, all the important decisions about the company are not made during "meetings" but during the smoking break. As Vice President, I would like to thank Malboro. ;)
-
Love the blog...As a smoker, I agree with you completely.
-
Never mind all of this...of course you are one of my favorite bloggers.

-
Strange.. cause I'd always say the same thing.. it is my friend :) I know it is not god for health but I cant stop it!

You're sort of polluting the environment by smoking ..
I'ved hated the concept even as a toddler. Most of my family has been killed off by lung cancer. It's pretty, though, if you know what I mean. Sounds.. beautifully corrupted. But when you put other people's lives at risk, that's when you should draw the line.

And thanks for the search of Isis - link!!! I am actually living in Egypt, not far from the Isis temple so this was special to me ... XXX
